During the last years, Internet of Things has experienced a significant growth and 2020 has been its most successful year. The coronavirus crisis has raised the market regarding the remote control and monitoring needs for facilities, establishments and factories. In 2021, the sector will undergo a new evolution to achieve these new challenges caused by this new scenario.
Connected industrial machine
The industrial machinery sector has always made safe steps. It is a sector where practices are not allowed, and only mature and trustworthy solutions become a reality. The IoT sector evolution combined with the new situation caused by the pandemic will lead to a firm commitment to make 2021 as the year of smart industrial machines. The world of Internet of Machines has arrived.
In recent years, it has been usual to receive periodic visits from engineers of device’s manufacturing industries to perform maintenance, inspection and follow-up tasks. The sector has evolved, and now the machines generate preventive alerts and enable to remotely configure any parameter. This evolution allows to skip long inactivity periods and save travel expenses. 2021 is going to be the year of the predictive maintenance.
Retails 2021: objective, reduce costs
Certainly, retails is one of the sectors that was highly affected by the pandemic and that has suffered countless establishments closings. Now, more than ever, retails must apply solutions to reduce costs and analyze the situation and performance of each commercial establishment.
Solutions based on scheduled ON/OFF control of HVAC and lighting systems, automated ventilation of the establishment based on visitor-capacity, control and detection of overconsumptions out of working hours, …. A complete set of measures to improve the efficiency and reduce costs in retails.
Smart offices and factories; even more
During 2020, a huge number of office buildings have been empty or with a low influx of persons. Teleworking have been established as new reality and it will be maintained as a usual way to work during the upcoming year.
Companies on manufacturing and logistics sector must continue working on-site, but they will need to improve their assets remote management, the lighting and climate automation, and the information digitalization.
There is a big difference between opening all the workforce or opening for 50% of the staff. Sensors and automation will play a key role on making it cost-effective.
One communication protocol for each application
The Internet of Things sector sits in the perfect moment to his final evolution. Nowadays, the perfect protocol for each project is available.
Not so long ago, the connectivity options were a small list including Ethernet, RS232/485, GPRS, Wi-Fi and Zigbee. However, during the last years this list has grown significantly with the appearance of LoRa, Sigfox, 4G, NB-IoT, LTE-M, Wi-Fi+, and the last one, 5G.
This tremendous evolution will allow each IoT project to choose the best connectivity option for each application’s objective.
